Remembering Carol Brooks

Carol Brooks’ maiden name is “Rich” and that is exactly what her life has been. She is the middle of three girls born to Albert Roland Rich and Ruby Mae Rich. She grew up in the Leeds
District of Kansas City, where Albert had a job working on the streetcar tracks and her mother was a beautician -- a profession that one of Carol’s daughters would later follow.

Carol has many memories of her home life during the early 1940s. She fondly remembers her grandmother serving as the family matriarch and reminisces about her being a terrific cook, specializing in fried chicken on Sunday evenings. Carol would go with her grandmother to the City Market to make her purchases, come home and literally “ring the chickens’ necks” and fry them up for supper with macaroni and cheese, greens and dinner rolls.

Carol attended Booker T. Washington, RT Coles and Lincoln High School. She met Alvin Brooks when he was a senior in high school and she was in junior high school. He had an old jalopy and from the time they met, she knew that he would be her life partner. They were married on August 23, 1950, and she loved that, from the start, he was a leader and a people person.

Carol and Alvin have six children, 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Please post your memories of Carol Brooks or messages to the family below.

  7. With the Name of God, The Most Merciful Benefactor, The Most Merciful Redeemer

To our dearest brother Alvin Brooks and Family:

We seek refuge with God from the influences of the evil one
Who has been rejected and outcast

    And God says: …

“Every human being is bound to taste death; and We test you [all] through the bad and the good things of life by way of trial: and unto Us you all must return.” Holy Quran - 21:35 And surly, God speaks the truth

On behalf of Al-Haqq Islamic Center, we would like to convey on deepest sympathies to the family for the loss of your loved one. We offer our prayers and support to you during this time of bereavement; and pray that God will forgive your wife, Carol Brooks for all her sins, reward her according to the best of her deeds, protect her from the torment of the grave and the hell fire and grant her peace and the paradise.

Further we pray that her life and her passing will serve as a reminder to us all that all of us shall one day
return to the earth and meet the judgment of our Lord; and we should be working and striving for G-d’s good pleasure both in this life, as well as the hereafter.

They say: “Behind every great man, there is a great woman”. We truly understand how you became the great man you are today. We thank G-d for the life and support of Mrs. Carol Brooks.
May God’s Peace be with you all.

    Sincerely,

    Imam Sulaiman Z. Salaam

  8. May The Peace that comes from The Deity of The Peace that goes beyond all understanding be with you and yours.

Surely we come from the Only True deity and surely we are returning to Him.

I just had the opportunity to read this email and I send my belated condolences to you, Bro. Alvin Brooks, and to your family.

May her works praise her in the gates? May those who were influenced positively by Sis. Carol Brooks continue to be so influenced to the point that they pass on that influence to others directly and indirectly? To allow you to be who and what you are known to be in our community shows that she had your back. It is said that "behind every great man, there is a great woman".

I believe that is true in your case.

For all of the good that she has done in any manner, may Allah reward her with a place in His Paradise that will make her forget the trials and tribulations of this worlds life? Amen.

Your brother in service of The Only True Deity via seriving his creation, Peace be unto you,
    Tadar Jihad Wazir
